President Vladimir Putin confirmed the ratification of the Protocol on Procedures for the Formation and Functioning of the Forces and Resources of the Collective Security System of the Countries party to the Collective Security Treaty

July 26, 2006

The Protocol on Procedures for the Formation and Functioning of the Forces and Resources of the Collective Security System of the Countries party to the Collective Security Treaty of May 15, 1992, was signed in Yerevan on May 25, 2001 and was ratified by the Russian parliament on July 14, 2006.

Under the terms of the protocol, the countries party to the Collective Security Treaty can form coalition (regional) groups of troops (forces), their command bodies, and combined systems. These groups and systems are formed as part of the collective security system’s forces and resources.

These groups of troops and combined systems will be responsible for carrying out missions to prevent and repel potential aggression.

In peacetime, the military units that are part of the groups of troops and combined systems are subordinate to the command bodies of the state on whose territory they are located, unless the states in the given region decide otherwise.

The protocol’s entry into force will contribute to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries party to the Collective Security Treaty.
