President Putin signed a federal law designed to increase the responsibility incumbent on those who infringe rules designed to preserve items with archeological value

July 26, 2006

The law has been adopted with a view to increasing the responsibility incumbent on those who infringe state rules designed to preserve items with archeological value and the rules that oversee archeological field work. The administrative sanctions for conducting archeological investigations or excavations with permission have been increased. The law introduces administrative responsibility for imprudent activities which have damaged or destroyed objects with archeological value. An article on “The Failure to Transfer Objects with Cultural Value Gained as a Result of Archeological Field Work to Permanent Storage in the State Section of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation” has been introduced into the Russian Federation’s code on administrative offences.
