Vladimir Putin met with the President of Kalmykia, Kirsan Iliumzhinov

They discussed the social and economic situation in the region.

In particular, Kirsan Iliumzhinov reported on the programme for developing the meat industry in Kalmykia. According to the President of Kalmykia, the programme to develop this sector will allow it to supply half of Russia’s meat requirements.

The region’s President informed the Russian head of state on the problems with water supply in Kalmykia. As Kirsan Iliumzhinov said, the first part of the Levokumsky water pipeline from Stavropol has already started to be built, and he asked the President of Russia for financial help in building the second part. According to the head of the region, constructing this water pipeline will provide for 90 percent of Kalmykia’s water requirements.

They also discussed preparing for the 400-year anniversary from when the Kalmyk people voluntarily joined the Russian state.
