August 10, 2006

During his trip the Russian head of state visited the Republic of Mordovia and the Republic of Udmurtiya.

After arriving in Mordovia’s capital, Vladimir Putin visited the Tsvetlit factory where he examined manufacturing procedures and was shown various product samples, including network cables used in both the space sector and in ordinary construction. Factory employees also told the President about the project to introduce digital television in Mordovia.

The President also held a working meeting with the head of the Republic of Mordovia, Nikolai Merkushkin, during which he pointed out that, as a whole, Mordovia’s economy is developing quite well and thanked the head of the Republic for the work he has accomplished towards developing the region.

The head of state then visited the capital of Udmurtiya, Izhevsk, where he took part in the opening ceremony of the VI All-Russia Rural Summer Games.

The President emphasized that for several decades now, the rural games have helped develop national sports in Russia. In turn, promoting physical education and sports helps improve the social situation both in rural areas and in the country as a whole.
