The two heads of state discussed the international community’s efforts to normalize the situation in Lebanon.
The President of Russia expressed his support for the Italian government’s decision to send an important Italian military contingent within the international forces in Lebanon.
In turn, Romano Prodi emphasised Russia’s traditional influence in the region, and expressed his support for close cooperation both in the Lebanon and in other areas related to the Middle Eastern settlement.
During the conversation they also touched on separate aspects of their bilateral relations.
The conversation took place at the initiative of the Italian side.
