Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attended the meeting from the Russian side. Then talks continued with the participation of the two countries' delegations.

After the bilateral talks, Vladimir Putin and Thabo Mbeki signed an agreement on friendship and partnership between the two countries.

They were also present at the signing of several inter-governmental agreements – on cooperation in peaceful space exploration and use, on cooperation in healthcare and medical sciences, and on mutual protection of rights of intellectual property used and received in the process of bilateral defense cooperation.

A news conference was held after the talks.
