At Russian initiative Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Greece, Konstantinos Karamanlis

September 14, 2006

Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated Konstantinos Karamanlis on his 50th birthday.

During the conversation both parties confirmed that they are intent on implementing the agreements to construct a transbalkan oil pipeline Burgas-Alexandroupolis, agreements reached at the recent summit in Athens.

Earlier on, President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Greece, Konstantinos Karamanlis, on the occasion of his birthday.

The message reads, in particular:

“I am confident that our bilateral strategic cooperation based on the spiritual and cultural ties between our peoples, equal rights and mutual benefits in our economic cooperation, and our aspiration to ensuring security in Europe and in the world, will be further developed as a result of your support.

I warmly recall our recent meeting in Greece, a meeting during which we achieved fundamental agreements in the energy sector. I believe that the results of the visit will also give a tangible impulse to the whole range of our bilateral cooperation.”
