President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to the participants, organisers and guests at the opening ceremony of the World Chess Championship match

The President said he was happy that such an important competition is taking place in Russia, a country deservedly reputed for its chess school and its fine winning tradition.

The World Chess Championship match is taking place in Elista (Kalmykia).
