President Vladimir Putin sent President of China Hu Jintao a message of congratulations on the occasion of the Chinese national holiday celebrating the 57th anniversary of the proclamation of the People's Republic of China

October 1, 2006

Mr Putin’s message reads, in particular:

“The real breakthrough in key economic areas and the major social and humanitarian achievements of the Chinese people over these years inspire genuine respect. These achievements are directly linked to China’s increasing international authority and influence and to its contribution to strengthening peace and stability throughout the world.

It is important that in this new century relations between our countries develop confidently in a spirit of strategic partnership and alliance. This helps to raise the level of foreign policy cooperation, ensures greater security in the region and contributes to realising more fully the immense economic, scientific, technical and cultural potential that Russia and China both have. Most importantly, it has practical benefits for millions of ordinary Russians and Chinese.

The events held as part of the Year of Russia in China have focused on deepening the diverse ties between our countries, have helped to bring our peoples even closer together and strengthen our centuries-old traditions of mutual sympathy, friendship and cooperation. We will do everything we can to ensure that the upcoming Year of China in Russia is just as memorable a success”.
