Mr Siniora expressed his gratitude to Mr Putin for Russia’s positive role in bringing about an end to the military conflict and for its assistance in rebuilding civil infrastructure in Lebanon.
Mr Putin expressed satisfaction that the Russian military-engineering contingent had begun its work in Lebanon and said he was happy with the constructive cooperation with the Lebanese authorities, who will help in particular to ensure more reliable security for the Russian military engineers.
Mr Putin and Mr Siniora discussed the prospects for Middle East settlement and emphasised the need for all parties involved to implement in full United Nations Security Council resolution 1701.
The conversation took place on Lebanon’s initiative.
