Vladimir Putin sent a greeting to the participants of 7th Africa Partnership Forum session that is taking place in Moscow

October 26, 2006

The message reads, in particular:

“Since its creation in 2003 the Forum has become an important platform for dialogue between representatives of African countries and their leading partners, a platform where they can discuss strategies for achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals together. One of the forum’s important aspects involves developing practical recommendations to increase the productivity with which African states can implement the programme New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).

We note with satisfaction that this summit’s present session is in conformance with the priority themes of the G8 summit that was held in St Petersburg. I am convinced that consecutively implementing the decisions it made regarding energy security, education and the fight against infectious diseases is in the African peoples’ long-term interests.

I would like to take this opportunity to confirm that Russia will continue to actively take part in providing comprehensive help to African countries, including by participating in coordinated measures initiated by the G8 and also within the Africa Partnership Forum.

I am confident that the subject-specific discussion at the Forum’s meeting in Moscow will help increase the effectiveness of international cooperation in the interests of Africa’s social and economic development and reinforce stability and security on the continent.”
