The visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum was followed by an official ceremony where Mr Putin was welcomed by Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.
The Presidents were met by an honour guard lined up before the Presidential Palace. The Russian and Vietnamese national anthems were performed and the two Presidents then inspected the honour guard and introduced the members of their delegations.
Following an official photo session, the two Presidents had a brief conversation in the main hall of the Presidential Palace.
