President Vladimir Putin held talks at the Kremlin with President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono

The two leaders first met one-on-one and were later joined by their respective delegations.

The talks focused above all on ways to increase and diversify trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Among the promising areas for cooperation discussed were the energy sector, ensuring energy security, the oil and gas sector, the peaceful use of outer space and space technology, civil aviation, industry, the prevention and cleanup of natural and industrial disasters, military and military-technical cooperation, and tourism.

The talks also looked at expanding the legal foundation for relations between the two countries. In particular, discussions looked at stepping up work on draft agreements encouraging and protecting investment, a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation in the oil and gas sector, a memorandum of understanding on fisheries cooperation, and an agreement on air transport links.

The two presidents adopted Mutual Statement following the talks.

The following documents were signed in the presence of the Russian and Indonesian leaders: an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the nuclear energy sector; an intergovernmental agreement on exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes; an intergovernmental agreement on mutual protection of intellectual property rights to the results of work obtained through and used in bilateral military-technical cooperation; an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on facilitating the implementation of a bilateral military-technical cooperation programme for the period 2006–2010; an intergovernmental agreement on the abolition of visa formalities for short-term visits by diplomatic and service-passport holders; a memorandum of understanding between the Russian Federal Tourism Agency and the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism on cooperation in the tourism sector; and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Indonesian Prosecutor General’s Office.

Also signed during the visit were: an agreement between the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on cooperation in exchanging business information; a memorandum of understanding between the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy and the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Staff Training Centre; and a protocol on cooperation between the city authorities of Jakarta and Moscow.

The two presidents made press statements following the signing of the documents.
