December 9, 2006

At the beginning of the conversation the Prime Minister of Turkey expressed his sincere condolences concerning the fire in a Moscow hospital that claimed many victims.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed cooperation in trade, economic, political and other spheres. They expressed their satisfaction with the active dynamic of Russian-Turkish relations.

They also had a detailed exchange of opinions on current issues in the international agenda, first and foremost concerning the situation in the Middle East. Both sides confirmed that their points of view and approaches towards finding a settlement in this troubled region are harmonious. They emphasised the need for responsible and joint actions by the international community with a view to help resolve the region’s problems and, therefore, the significance of further foreign policy coordination between Russia and Turkey.
