The near space is a major potential of national development to boost living standards, President Vladimir Putin said at a gala evening on Academician Sergei Korolev’s birth centenary.

The state has done a great deal to promote Russian space efforts. Just two such examples are a federal target programme on space research and large-scale implementation of the GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System).

Russian space developmental strategies depend on reasonable arrangement of priorities for the next several decades. Special focus should be made on personnel training and further integration of space-oriented industry into the national economy, the President said.

President Putin congratulated the space sector workers on the great anniversary and expressed his certainty that Russia will remain one of the world’s leading countries in the space field in the 21st century.
