President Vladimir Putin signed a Decree on the Creation of an Inter-ministerial Working Group to draft Proposals for Implementing in Russian Legislation the Provisions of the United Nations Anti-Corruption Convention of October 31, 2003, and the Council of Europe Criminal Law Convention on Corruption of January 27, 1999

The decree stipulates the creation of an inter-ministerial working group to draft proposals for implementing in Russian legislation the aforementioned conventions. Presidential Aide Viktor Ivanov has been appointed to head the group.

According to the decree, the working group has until August 1, 2007, to present proposals for making the amendments to Russian legislation needed to implement the provisions of the aforementioned international conventions, including with regard to defining a specialised body empowered to coordinate efforts to fight corruption.

In order to achieve its objectives, the group has the right to request and receive, according to the set procedures, the necessary materials from the state authorities and organisations, and also to invite state representatives to their meetings, form permanent or temporary working groups on issues within their responsibility, and bring in scientists or specialists, under the set procedures, including on a contract basis, for carrying out certain work.
