Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with the acting President of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov

March 1, 2007, Novo-Ogaryovo

The head of state presented Ramzan Kadyrov’s candidature for the position of President of Chechnya to the parliament of the Chechen Republic. Vladimir Putin made this announcement during the meeting.

In accordance with current legislation the corresponding letter was sent to Grozny today.

Vladimir Putin made this decision based on the fact that Ramzan Kadyrov has done a great deal to help reconstruct Chechnya over the past few years, both as deputy Prime Minister and as head of government.

All indicators show that Chechnya has made significant and tangible steps forward. Vladimir Putin expects that if Ramzan Kadyrov is nominated for this position, he will do everything possible so that Chechnya’s social and economic recovery proceeds at the same rate, so that people feel more secure, so that each resident of Chechnya is motivated to develop their own Republic and to strengthen the Russian Federation.

President Vladimir Putin expressed his hope that the parliament of Chechnya will support his decision.
