The meeting discussed the situation in Chechnya and ways of rebuilding districts of Dagestan that were damaged by insurgent attacks.
First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Khristenko reported on the payment of compensation to residents of Dagestan and the funding of repair work at industrial and cultural facilities, apartment houses and private homes.
On January 19, Mr Khristenko, whom Vladimir Putin put in charge of rebuilding Dagestan, will visit the republic together with Finance Ministry and Emergency Situations Ministry officials and law-enforcement officers and will monitor the disbursement of budgetary allocations for the region.
The meeting also discussed budgetary planning and the national socio-economic situation. It was decided to hold a telephone conference with top regional administrators on January 25 to discuss the payment of wages to budget-dependent workers.
The meeting was attended by the heads of law-enforcement ministries, the Security Council secretary, the economics minister, the finance minister and all the deputy prime ministers except Nikolai Aksyonenko, who was on a working trip to the Karachayevo-Circassian Republic.
