Acting President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko

The two leaders discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, as well as preparations for a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States and for the first meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus scheduled for January 26, 2000.

During the conversation, the two leaders agreed in principle to appoint Pavel Borodin of Russia as general secretary of the Union State.
