Economic cooperation was a major issue discussed at the meeting. At a news conference after the talks, Mr Putin said that the Russian side had informed the British partners about the efforts and plans to limit the government’s involvement in the economy. The discussion also included Russia’s position on the ratification of the START II Treaty and on the US plans concerning the ABM Treaty.

Mr Putin’s meeting with Mr Blair lasted for over three hours, much longer than initially planned.
