Acting President Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the monument to Soviet soldiers and civilians killed in World War II

The monument was unveiled in the park near the Imperial War Museum on the south bank of the Thames on May 9, 1999.

The foundation of the monument contains capsules with soil from places in Russia including Volgograd and St Petersburg, as well as from Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Later President Putin went on a brief sightseeing tour of the British capital.
