President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Government Cabinet

Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref reported on work to create special economic port zones.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov spoke about work on the programme to develop the city of Sochi as a sports and resort region, and also informed the meeting about the presentation of Sochi’s bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov reported on the formation and development of mountain brigades in the North Caucasus together with the Russian Interior Ministry forces.

Health and Social Development Minister Mikhail Zurabov reported on preparations for a pension increase as from April 1, 2007.

First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov informed the meeting about the Defence Ministry Central Archive’s work to digitalise data on all who were killed or went missing during World War II.

Mr Ivanov also reported on upcoming meetings on developing transport-sector machine-building and Russia’s internal transport waterways (river-going fleet).

First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev reported on the establishment and development of federal universities in Rostov-on-Don and Krasnoyarsk.
