Acting President and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in the lower house of parliament with State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznev

January 19, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

The acting president specifically addressed the need to establish constructive and businesslike cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of government. The success of this task will have a direct influence on how fast measures to improve living standards will be carried out, he emphasized.

Mr Putin and Mr Seleznev discussed the bills that needed to be debated in the lower house more urgently than others. These were the Land, Labour, Criminal Procedure and Civil Procedure Codes.

The acting president also instructed the Justice Ministry to consider a set of bills the government had earlier submitted to the second State Duma in order to update them and determine the order in which the house would discuss the legislation.
