Acting President Vladimir Putin met President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev

Mr Akayev addressed Vladimir Putin with a request to restructure Kyrgyzstan's debt.

The two leaders also discussed the situation that had arisen after Kyrgyzstan's accession to the World Trade Organisation and ways to ensure the interests of the Russian population in the republic. The Kyrgyz president assured Mr Putin that the rights of Russian speakers would not be discriminated in any way.
