Acting President Vladimir Putin discussed current issues related to bilateral relations with Moldovan President Petru Lucinschi

January 24, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

In particular, Mr Putin and Mr Lucinschi considered the problem of Moldova’s debts for gas supplies and discussed the outlook for a settlement in Transdnestr. They also touched upon the removal of Russian military property from Moldova, but they did not discuss a specific timeframe.

Mr Lucinschi said he was positive that the formation of a new Moldovan government would help to resolve some of the problems that had damaged bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The Russian side at the talks was also represented by the president’s deputy chief of staff, Sergei Prikhodko.
