Mr Putin and Mr Perez Roque discussed current issues related to Russian-Cuban cooperation.
Mr Putin said that Russia was ready to develop bilateral relations with Cuba on a friendly and regular basis.
In the course of negotiations, the Russian side reiterated that it was against the introduction of any restrictions or sanctions against Cuba. The cooperation between a Russian and a Cuban delegation in preparing the 54th session of the UN General Assembly was emphasised.
The acting Russian president praised the actions of the Cuban government within the Non-aligned Movement.
Cuba’s debt to Russia, amounting to several billion dollars, was also touched upon.
The Cuban foreign minister handed the acting president a personal message from Fidel Castro, confirming Cuba’s desire for all-round cooperation with Russia both on a bilateral basis and in international affairs. Mr Castro invited Mr Putin to make an official visit to Cuba. The invitation was accepted with gratitude. The time of the visit will be agreed after the presidential election in Russia.
