Acting President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mikhail Kasyanov

February 7, 2000, The Government House, Moscow

The sides discussed cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities in resolving major economic problems.

Vladimir Putin instructed Mikhail Kasyanov to start consultations with the parties in the Duma and to ask members of parliament to formulate their legislative agenda for the economy. They should also focus on the 2001 draft budget, giving consideration to the government’s recommendations.

Mr Putin also asked Mr Kasyanov to pay more attention to improvement of the Russian banking system. He said that the restructuring of this sphere was too slow, which might negatively affect the nation’s economic development.

Mr Putin instructed Mr Kasyanov to look for new sources of funding for the Agency on Restructuring Credit Institutions (ARCI) to develop the banking sector.
