Acting President Vladimir Putin sent a message to President Fernando Henrique Cardoso of Brazil

February 16, 2000

The message said, in part, that the strengthening of relations of partnership and friendship between Russia and Brazil, especially now, ahead of the 21st century, met the vital interests of both nations and the aims of promoting world peace and stability.

Mr Putin said that Russia was working to give a fresh boost to Russian-Brazilian cooperation in world affairs and in establishing more just and democratic multi-polar international relations.

He highlighted a further broadening of mutually advantageous partnership in trade, economics and investment as a key area of Russian-Brazilian ties.

“Today’s priorities include: increased and diversified trade, joint projects in such cutting-edge areas as aerospace, nuclear energy, fuel and energy, as well as scientific research,” Putin said.
