Mr Niyazov thanked Mr Putin for his call and the congratulatory message that had been sent earlier.

The presidents discussed a number of topical issues related to the development of Russian-Turkmen cooperation, particularly in the fuel and energy sector. They also talked about the results of the meeting between Mr Niyazov and Gazprom CEO Rem Vyakhirev in Ashgabat, where the two had discussed practical aspects of future cooperation.
