Acting President and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin received his individual taxpayer's identification number

February 21, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

Russian Minister for Taxes and Duties Alexander Pochinok presented the taxpayer’s identification document to Mr Putin.

Individual taxpayers’ identification numbers are being issued in Moscow, St Petersburg, the North Caucasus and Bashkortostan. Speaking about the successful experiment, Mr Pochinok called on the people of these regions to apply for identification numbers as soon as possible. He said that all federal departments, including law-enforcement agencies, were using security features to protect all individual taxpayers’ registration numbers.

Mr Putin and Mr Pochinok also discussed measures to improve tax collection and to reduce corporations’ tax arrears.
