Mr Putin congratulated the Indian prime minister on the recently celebrated national holiday commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Republic of India.
During the lengthy conversation that followed, the two men discussed future prospects for Russian-Indian relations, including preparations for a top-level meeting.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the similarity between Russian and Indian approaches to the fundamental issues of international affairs. The leaders noted that they held the same view on the need for the world community to work together in order to eliminate the threat of international terrorism and extremism.
