The two heads of state stressed their certainty that bilateral high-level contacts and the latest essential understandings indisputably confirm good and reliable prospects for Russian-Uzbek relations. There is every prerequisite for upgrading bilateral contacts to effective strategic partnership.

Mr Putin and Mr Karimov agreed to continue close cooperation.

The acting president also forwarded to President Karimov a message of congratulations, which says, in part: “In you, Uzbekistan has an energetic and far-sighted leader who dedicates his work to the benefit of his country and nation, and Russia a reliable friend and partner. We highly value it.”
