Mr Putin attended a concert held to mark the 55th victory in the Second World War

May 7, 2000, The Grand Kremlin Palace, Moscow

Addressing the audience before the concert, President Putin said that Victory Day was a holiday of unity and reconciliation in Russia.

He told war veterans that they had won in that merciless war and rebuilt the country. Their high standards, which they want the younger generations to live and work by, have helped them to preserve the country’s integrity, the President said, adding that efforts were being taken to strengthen these principles.
