May 18, 2000, Tashkent

Mr Putin negotiated with Mr Karimov for 15 minutes at Tashkent-2 airport.

After that, Mr Putin and Mr Karimov visited Memory and Honour Square in central Tashkent and laid flowers at the monument “The Mourning Mother”.

“The living must never forget what the people experienced during that terrible war and must also care for all war veterans,” Mr Putin said after the ceremony.

After that, Mr Putin arrived at Durmen, the presidential residence, where the Uzbek President held a dinner in his honour.

Both heads of state then negotiated face-to-face.
