Dmitry Medvedev met with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan

April 23, 2009, Zavidovo, Tver Region

Dmitry Medvedev and Serzh Sargsyan discussed various issues on the international and regional agenda and, in particular, a settlement for Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

When speaking about the Moscow Declaration signed on November 2, 2008, the Russian leader emphasised that the document reflects common approaches to finding solutions based on the fundamental principles of international law, principles that form a solid basis for a settlement. Mr Medvedev noted that both parties are ready to seek a constructive solution to this problem.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to the Russian party for its substantial contribution to resolving the Nagorno Karabakh problem.

During the talks the two leaders also discussed Russian-Armenian trade and economic cooperation, political and cultural aspects of bilateral cooperation, and ways to overcome the negative effects of the global financial crisis.

Following the talks Dmitry Medvedev and Serzh Sargsyan answered questions from journalists.
