President Vladimir Putin attended a working dinner of G8 heads of state and government

July 21, 2000, Okinawa, Japan

Leaders of the G8 countries (Great Britain, Italy, Canada, Russia, the United States, France, Germany and Japan) started their annual summit with a working dinner in the Bankoku Shinryokan complex.

The G8 leaders discussed security and peacekeeping issues, also touching upon regional problems, including the situation on the Korean peninsula. The Russian president provided a detailed review of his talks in Pyongyang and expressed his position on possible ways to assist the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in its efforts to become a full member of the global community.

In a separate meeting that took place earlier, the G8 leaders (except Russia) discussed global economic problems.
