President Vladimir Putin sent a message to Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in which he emphasised that Russia considered the Tunisian Republic's participation in the work of UN Security Council in 2000–2001 as the country's recognition on the international stage

Mr Putin indicated that Russia and Tunisia had followed through with their intention to cooperate with the UN. According to the President, the latter is the basis for fruitful cooperation and elaboration of balanced decisions on key issues of world policy, including the formation of a multi-polar world and resolving crises.

In his message the President said, “Russian-Tunisian cooperation continues thanks to the work of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. It is in our common interests to pursue set objectives in different fields. We should look forward to new areas for collaborative work and improve bilateral cooperation.”
