President Vladimir Putin sent President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria a message proposing a constructive and trustful dialogue between the two countries

June 7, 2000

Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Sredin, who is on a visit to Algeria, conveyed the message.

The message said that Russia regards Algeria as a promising partner and intends to expand cooperation with it on a wide range of important international and bilateral issues.

Mr Putin praised the Algerian President’s consistent efforts to build a multi-polar world and his contribution to international and regional stability, exemplified by Algeria’s peacekeeping activities in Africa as chairman of the Organisation of African Unity. He said he also fully shared his Algerian counterpart’s opinion that the time was ripe for giving a boost to all aspects of Russian-Algerian relations.

Wishing to give further momentum to intergovernmental relations and expand them to meet the aspirations of both nations, Mr Putin invited Mr Bouteflika to pay an official visit to Russia.
