President Vladimir Putin sent to King Mohammed VI of Morocco a letter outlining the current state and prospects of bilateral relations

June 6, 2000

The letter was delivered by Vasily Sredin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, while on visit to Rabat.

As the letter noted, Russia is firmly determined to promote entire range of contacts with Morocco, which plays a prominent role on the international scene. Russia is willing to continue interaction on topical issues of global politics, including creating a just world order based on law supremacy, crisis settlement, and counteracting international terrorism.

Russia and Morocco share an impressive positive experience in such long-established fields as energy, personnel training, and sea fishery, the Russian President said. Both countries will gain if they continue actively using that accumulated experience. It is also of great importance today, Mr Putin stressed, to persistently seek for new spheres and forms of bilateral partnership and to thus implement its potential. The President exemplifies such partnership with an upcoming launch of a Moroccan satellite to be orbited by a Russian booster.

The Russian President thanked Mohammed VI for his contribution to the release of Russian pilots captured in Angola by UNITA.
