During the meeting, Mr Putin emphasised the importance of the continuation of the Russian-American dialogue on international security issues, including that between the military agencies.

Such contacts are intended to strengthen mutual trust and create favourable environment for fruitful cooperation between Russia and the US both within the framework of their bilateral relations and on the international arena, the President said.

Among other issues, the problems of maintaining strategic stability were discussed as relating to the US.-Russian Strategic Stability and Cooperation Initiative, which the Presidents of the two countries signed recently in Moscow.

Mr Putin once again stressed that abiding by the commitments of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and keeping the world’s strategic stability are the issues of crucial importance.
