President Vladimir Putin met State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov

During the meeting the President announced the possible date of his address to the Federal Assembly. It is tentatively scheduled for July 3, 2000.

Mr Putin and Mr Seleznyov discussed a number of bills to be considered by the State Duma before the current session ends. The President agreed with the timetable for debating the bills.

The State Duma Speaker briefed the President on his trip to Syria to attend the funeral of President Hafiz al-Assad and the results of his meetings with Syrian leaders.

The two men exchanged proposals for a bill on elections to the parliamentary assembly of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. The bill will be finalised and submitted to the State Duma in the near future.

Mr Seleznyov also informed the President about the upcoming visits by members of the Russian parliament to Britain and Italy set for June 20–29.
