Mr Putin and Mr Gates discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and international and regional issues in which both countries have an interest.

Taking part in the meeting were Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko, Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Chief of General Staff Yury Baluyevsky and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak. American officials present at the meeting were Undersecretary for Defence Eric Edelman, Assistant Secretary of State Dan Freed, Senior Aide to the Defence Secretary Peter Chiarelli, and U.S. Ambassador to Russia William Burns.
