Acting President Vladimir Putin submitted the European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism of January 27, 1977, which had been signed on behalf of Russia in Budapest on May 7, 1999, to the State Duma for ratification

The European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism, signed by over 30 states, sets legal grounds for mutual assistance in prosecuting individuals involved with terrorist acts.

A declaration expected to be made upon ratification of the Convention is circumstantiated by the need to manifest a clear-cut standing of Russia on the inevitability of prosecution of those who commit acts of terrorism in order to prevent any ungrounded refusal in terrorist extradition.
