Following the discussion of a Middle East settlement, Mr Putin and Mr Barak exchanged their views on the future of a peaceful process in the region.
In this connection, the Russian President expressed his opinion on the Moscow visit by Yasser Arafat, Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and head of the Palestinian National Authority, and on his conversation with Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak. The two leaders stressed the need to continue Palestine-Israeli negotiations in search of compromise solutions.
