Islam Karimov told President Putin about the situation in Uzbekistan with armed attacks by extremist groups. Mr Putin expressed Russia’s full solidarity with Uzbek efforts to rout terrorist formations, and confirmed its readiness to cooperate with Uzbekistan and other Central Asian states to ensure regional security.
Mr Putin said he fully understood the reasons why President Karimov deemed it impossible, in the situation, to visit Yalta for an informal CIS summit.
