Vladimir and Lyudmila Putin arrived in Japan for a three-day visit

September 3, 2000, Tokyo

President Putin was personally welcomed by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori in Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

Mr Putin told reporters that the Russian-Japanese relations have been developing dynamically ever since the end of WWII. Russia is eager to develop them further relying on the earlier agreements, primarily the 1998 Declaration, the President emphasised.

The two leaders then drove together to Tokyo’s Akasaka Palace, Mr Putin’s residence for the time of his visit, where they had a brief informal conversation.
