September 12, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

On opening the meeting President Putin said that Russian-Vietnamese relations should remain stable and not be affected by immediate or short-term interests. He noted that relations between Russia and Vietnam were developing on the firm foundation of the 1994 Treaty.

The discussion covered economic cooperation, including in the fuel and energy sector, the prospects for the development of the Vietsovpetro company and the construction of a new oil refinery. Military-technical cooperation was also discussed.
