Top-level Russian-German talks were held in the Kremlin

September 25, 2000, Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Germany’s Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder discussed numerous aspects of bilateral cooperation, including trade, economic and energy partnership. They supported the idea of regular meetings between Russian and German public figures.

Both leaders also exchanged opinions on a number of important international issues, including the Balkan situation in the context of parliamentary and presidential elections in Yugoslavia.

Mr Putin and Mr Schroeder held a news conference after the talks. In his statement to the press, President Putin said long-term relations between Russia and Europe could help the latter solve its energy problems.

After the official programme of the German Chancellor’s official visit to Moscow, both leaders took a brief walk in the Kremlin.
