President Vladimir Putin met with South African President Tabo Mbeki

The Presidents discussed issues of bilateral economic, scientific and technical cooperation, and the coordination of the two countries’ foreign activities. The heads of state exchanged opinions on the role of the UN and prospects for its reforming.

Mr Putin and Mr Mbeki agreed on holding consultations on international problems by their foreign ministers soon.

Mr Putin thanked Mr Mbeki for his support of the ABM Treaty.
