President Vladimir Putin met with members of the International Olympic Committee

The meeting discussed Russia’s participation in developing sport and the Olympic movement.

Rene Fasel, president of the International Association of Winter Sports, said that the International Hockey Federation would celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. Celebrations will be timed to coincide with the world hockey championship, which will take place in hockey’s homeland of Canada, in the city of Halifax.

Mr Putin said that Russia should also help to organise the celebrations.

Along with Mr Fasel, also taking part in the meeting were Patrick Hickey, president of the European Olympic Committee, Lassana Palenfo, president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, Vyacheslav Fetisov, director of the Russian Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sport, Leonid Tyagachev, president of the Russian Olympic Committee, and Vladimir Potanin, president of Interros Company.
